As Head of the Church and the Savior of the Body, the Lord Jesus Christ gave officers for the edification of His Church and the perfecting of the saints (Ephesians 4:11-16; Philippians 1:1). At RCC, the officers are Elders and Deacons. The Elders have the responsibility to oversee the whole work of the local church, with a focus on the ministry of the Word, prayer, and worship (Acts 20:28-30). The Deacons have been given as assistants to the Elders to help facilitate the joy of the Body, especially for those in need. They are ministers of mercy, primarily in the church and secondarily to the world (Galatians 6:9-10). Both offices are to be held by men whose lives are worthy of emulation (1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9). The congregation is to esteem them and follow them as they follow Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:12-13; Hebrews 13:17).
